Water in Crankcase Solution(s) information from Cat Pumps ®
Humid air condensing into water inside of the crankcaseIt is important to protect the pump from excessive moisture or direct spray. Operation with contaminated oil will cause damage to bearings, oil seals and other drive-end components. Oil should be changed every 3 months or 500 hour intervals using CAT PUMPS, premium-blend, ISO-68 [up to 60 FR pumps] and ISO 100 [150 FR pumps] , petroleum-based, hydraulic oil with advanced anti-wear stabilizers and anti-corrosion technoloty. CAT PUMPS oil is available in bottles, cases-12-bottles, 5-gal-twin-pack or 16 gal container. Look for the CAT PUMPS logo on your oil bottle. If CAT PUMPS oil is not avialable, please contact CAT PUMPS for an Oil Alternative List. Other oils do not contain the same additives and may require more frequent changes.
Worn Seals or V-Packings Prolonged operation with worn seals and o-rings can permit liquid traveling back along the plunger rod and result in scoring of the rod. Operating with a scored plunger rod can cause wear to the crankcase oil seal and ultimately a mixing of oil/water. Increase the frequency of your seal servicing. Operating with contaminated oil can cause damage bearings, oil seals and other drive-end components.
Excessive Overspray If your CAT PUMP is exposed to moist conditions or frequent direct spraying, a ventilated enclosure is highly recommended. A special OIL CAP PROTECTOR is available for most CAT PUMPS models for added protection in normal cleaning conditions.
